Tasting notes
Even better, the 2011 Syrah Cabernet Odeon is gorgeous on all account. Cassis, black raspberry, lead pencil, mint and violets all emerge from the glass, and this medium to full-bodied, seamless and elegant blend will thrill for over a decade. Located high up in the Santa Cruz Mountains, Big Basin Vineyards is run by Bradley Brown. He releases numerous estate wines, yet also makes a number of wines from other top vineyards in the Central Coast. These 2011s show the freshness and focus of the cooler vintage, and his 2012s offer beautiful purity, with more fruit forward profiles. Tel. (408) 564-7346; www.bigbasinvineyards.com

A blend of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2011 Odeon is quite pretty in this vintage. Dark red and black stone fruits, grilled herbs, smoke and licorice meld together in a supple, effortless wine that captures the best of what was possible in this very challenging growing season.
The 2011 Odeon, a Syrah/Cabernet Sauvignon blend, is striking. Vivid and beautifully articulated, the 2010 Is laced with expressive blue/blackish fruit, grilled herbs, tobacco, cedar and smoke, all in a juicy, immensely appealing style. There is a lot to look forward to here. The 2011 is 60% Syrah and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon.
