Score 94/100 · Drink 2015-2030, Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, Nov 2014

A blend of 60% Syrah and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2010 Odeon spent 27 months in roughly 60% new French oak barrels prior to bottling. The Syrah comes all from the Coastview Vineyard, which sits at an elevation of 2,300 feet, and the Cabernet Sauvignon (harvest October 19) comes from the Betchart Vineyard, which sits across the road from Ridge Monte Bello Vineyard, at an elevation of 2,200 feet. This is a brilliant wine that offers incredible black raspberry, cassis, toasted spice, vanilla bean and coffee-like aromas and flavors. These come together nicely on the palate, where the wine is full-bodied, seamless and elegant, with perfect balance, no hard edges and integrated acidity. Leaning toward the finesse-driven end of the spectrum, yet with ample sweet fruit, drink this beauty over the coming decade or more.

The 2010 Odeon is another wine that is striking today. Tobacco, grilled herbs, smoke, plum and graphite notes are layered beautifully in this unusual Syrah/Cabernet Sauvignon blend. The Syrah lends intensity to the fruit, while the Cabernet seems to add varietal aromatics as well as supporting structure, a combination that is quite appealing. This is another drop-dead gorgeous wine.

I was quite taken with the 2010 Odeon. This Syrah/Cabernet Sauvignon blend impresses for its bright aromatics and beautifully delineated fruit. In 2010, the Odeon is made from a new Cabernet Sauvignon source, a plot on Montebello Road near Ridge. Perhaps for that reason, the 2010 is particularly successful. The 2010 has the potential to develop into a gorgeous, gorgeous wine. I loved it.
