The 2022 Viognier lifts from the glass with a whiff of flinty reduction before giving way to crushed nectarines and gingery spice. Soothingly round and supple, it splashes across the palate with ripe orchard fruits and sweet spice, all framed by citrus-tinged acidity. This tapers off incredibly fresh yet still potent, leaving a lingering, minty herbal freshness.

The 2022 York Mountain Viognier was barrel fermented and matured for six months sur lies in 26% new French oak. It opens with alluring matchstick tones that give way to white peach, baked bread, fresh tarragon and spicy undertones. The medium-bodied palate balances expansive, layered flavors with tangy acidity, and it has a long finish laced with exotic, spicy accents. 507 cases were made.
Starting with the white, aged 6 months in 26% new French oak, the 2022 Viognier is gorgeous with bright pineapple and honeyed lime notes in a medium to full-bodied round, supple, incredibly layered style. It's one of the finest Viogniers I've tasted from Jordan. Epoch continues to pull heavily from their estate Paderewski Vineyard, but they’re also releasing new cuvées from their York Mountain estate as those vines come online. I expect this trend to continue. Looking at the wines reviewed here, I was able to taste all their 2020s now from bottle, and they’ve clearly produced some of the top wines in this challenging vintage. If there’s any smoke in these wines, I was unable to find it, and they have remarkable purity in their aromatics and ripe, polished tannins. I was also able to go through the 2021s with winemaker Jordan Fiorentini, and there are some legit genius wines in here that are as good as anything out there. I’d wager these 2021s are some of the finest wines produced from this estate, and I can’t wait to try them again from bottle next year.
