(52% grenache, 38% carignan and 10% cabernet sauvignon) Saturated ruby. Blackberry, cassis and kirsch on the nose, with toasty oak spice and floral oil notes adding complexity. Broad, seductively sweet dark berry preserve flavors stain the palate, with sexy floral pastille and Asian spices building slowly. Tannins gain strength on the finish, but not at the expense of the fruit, which lingers impressively.

Respectable crimson. Full expression of llicorella. Pretty big and rude and even still quite crude. The elements are here but they are distinctly unresolved. Full blooded, very slightly rustic but certainly exuberant and there is sufficient acid and tannin. This blend of 50% garnacha, 40% cariñena, 10% cabernet is certainly not flabby. (JR)

The 2001 Gran Clos, a blend of 50% Grenache, 40% Carignan, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, is a big offering. An inky/purple color accompanies sweet aromas of blueberries, blackberries, crushed stones, and flowers. It possesses a velvety texture, a juicy mid-palate, and a long, concentrated, full-bodied, tannic finish. Give it 2-3 years of cellaring, and enjoy it over the following 12-15. Importer: a Christopher Cannan Selection, various American importers including Michael Skurnik, Syosset, NY; tel. (516) 677-9300 and Diamond Wine Merchants, Oakland, CA; tel. (510) 567-9897
