(14.2% alcohol): Bright, medium ruby-red. Sexy red berry and red cherry liqueur aromas are complicated by exotic coffee oak and a floral element. Sweet but firmly built, even a bit youthfully folded in on itself today, with an element of exotic flowers adding interest. Then turns a bit tough on the back half, finishing with edgy, slightly drying tannins and a note of greenness. Doesn’t quite deliver on the promising nose.

As always, the Amavi Cellars releases represent superb values. The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon is excellent, with plenty of black and blue fruits, charcoal, earth and assorted background herbal notes that flow to a medium-bodied, balanced feel on the palate. Juicy and forward, with the suppleness and mid-weight feel of the vintage, it is a well-made Cabernet to enjoy over the coming 5-7 years. As always, the Amavi Cellars releases represent superb values. Tel. (509) 525-3541; www.amavicellars.com
