Tasting notes
The 2014 Riesling Smaragd Wösendorfer Kirchweg displays an intense, rich and smoky bouquet with an enormous depth. Fruit-intense, vital and very mineral on the palate, this is a lean but complex, pretty sweet (1.4 grams per liter plus dry extract) and persistent Riesling. It has great mineral character in the long and now pure and dry finish. Great Riesling!

Scents and flavors of fresh pear and lemon lend invigoration thanks to chewy and tart notes of skin and rind. Caraway and celery seed and marine alkalinity and salinity add fascinating nuance, putting me in mind of Gewürztraminer but with primary juiciness and acid penetration that are archetypically Riesling. Coolly juicy and herbal, this finishes with fine length and an almost paradoxical combination of understated flavor nuances with vibrant brightness.
