2021 La Pelle Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve

Tasting notes
La Pelle's 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve includes portions of each of the three single vineyards but with a bit more from the Alluvium Vineyard in St. Helena. Overflowing with scents of crushed stone, cassis and black cherries, it's medium to full-bodied, rich and concentrated on the palate, with a long, velvety finish. Even considering the expected asking price of close to $200 per bottle, it represents a decent value in Napa Cabernet.

Mostly from the St. Helena vineyard, with a little from Coombsville, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve sees a touch more new barrels and spent 20 months in 80% new barrels. It's a legit gorgeous wine that reminds me of some of the old classics from this region. Darker currants, graphite, darker chocolate, ripe tobacco, and dried herbs all define the bouquet, and it's full-bodied, has a tight, compact mouthfeel, beautiful yet building tannins, and a great finish. Give bottles 3-5 years in the cellar and enjoy over the following 15-20 years.
