Tasting notes
There are 275 cases of the 2019 Merlot Lyla, sourced from Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard in southern Napa. Deep, dark scents of plums, black cherries and dark chocolate carry an undertone of cinnamon. It's medium to full-bodied, silky, plush, round and expansive on the palate, without any sense of heaviness, then adds a hint of licorice on the long, richly textured finish. If you're a fan of Merlot, you won't want to miss this one.

Lastly, the 2019 Lyla Proprietary Red is based on 90% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, brought up in new barrels. It has a gorgeous nose of pure cassis and black cherry fruits supported by complex floral and spicy nuances. With one hell of a mid-palate, ripe, supple tannins, and a full-bodied, mouth-filling style that just begs to be drunk, it’s good to go any time over the coming 10-15 years as well.
The 2019 Lyla is a fine introduction to this range. It offers up copious inky dark fruit, Cabernet Sauvignon, licorice, chocolate, cloves and menthol. This opulent, flamboyant Cabernet is a real head-turner.
