Tasting notes
The 2003 Alpha “M” is dark ruby-colored. It is already exhibiting mature aromas of spice box, leather, and red and black currants. The flavors are attractive but with only modest depth and length. Drink the 2003 now and over the next 8-10 years. Over recent years, Montes has been one of the standard-bearers of quality wines from Chile under the leadership of Aurelio Montes. The lineup is top-notch from entry level to top-of-the-line. Importer: TGIC Importers, Woodland Hills, CA; tel. (800) 924-0030

(this winery's flagship red, a blend of 80% cabernet sauvignon, 10% cabernet franc and 5% each merlot and petit verdot) Inky ruby. Powerful aromas of dried cherry, plum preserves, blackcurrant, rhubarb and roasted coffee. Lush and round, with ripe red and black fruit flavors, a chewy texture and supple, rounded tannins. Old World in structure and weight despite some very ripe flavors. An impressive, serious wine that should reward cellaring.
