Tasting notes
The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Tench Vineyard The Calixtro comes from Block 1B of the Tench Vineyard, which is the transition between the rockier parts of the vineyard and the deeper, redder, iron-laced soils. Brought up all in new French oak, it has a dense, backward, yet pure and incredibly promising profile that carries loads of currants, creme de cassis, white flowers, iron, and lead pencil. It's powerful, uber-full-bodied, meaty, and just loaded with fruit.

The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Tench Vineyard The Calixtro is quite a bit more floral and perfumed than the Tench Cabernet. Sweet spice, floral, cedar and tobacco notes are nicely lifted in a mid-weight wine that is both powerful and yet also silky. This is such an elegant, nuanced Cabernet for the year, especially with a bit of time in the glass, and yet there is plenty of the gravitas and intensity readers have come to expect from Russell Bevan.
