Tasting notes
The 2006 Pinot Noir Reserve is a slightly darker color and a bit more restrained aromatically. The wine has good focus and delineation with black cherry and black raspberry fruit appearing on the mid-palate. Nicely balanced and concentrated, the wine has a persistent, fruit-filled finish. Drink it over the next four years. Raptor Ridge’s first vintage was in 1995. It owns 27 acres in the Chehalem Mountains AVA with 18 planted plus long-term contracts. The winery is currently producing 6-7000 cases annually. Tel. (503) 367-4263; www.raptorridge.com

Deep red. Powerful blackberry, cassis and licorice aromas, along with cocoa powder and Indian spices. Pliant dark berry flavors offer deep, liqueur-like dark berry and kirsch flavors, with gentle mineral lift on the close. Rich, sweet and impressively broad on the finish, which leaves behind a strong dark fruit compote quality. This is surprisingly lithe for a wine with such weight.
