Score 89/100 · Drink 1992-2002, Robert Parker, Dec 1992

The darkest colored of all the Drouhin 1990 Cote de Beaunes, the 1990 Volnay-Clos des Chenes is an impeccably made, exceptionally rich wine with excellent delineation to its flavors and impressive intensity. The wine's black-cherry fruit is nicely supported by toasty new oak. The finish is long. Drink it over the next decade. Drouhin makes stylish, elegant red burgundies which, from a technical point of view, are always flawless. His 1990s from the Cote de Beaune are lovely, pure, medium-weight wines with both elegance and gracefulness. The characteristics of the 1990 vintage - the super color, sweet, expansive fruit and ripeness - are also apparent, despite the Drouhin signature. Importer: Dreyfus Ashby, New York, NY.
