Tasting notes
The 2013 Misfit is a delicious, mid-tier wine from Sanguis. Super-ripe red stone fruit, plum marmalade, sweet spices and new oak are front and center. The Misfit is a relatively mid-weight wine by Sanguis standards and also makes a good introduction to the house style. In this vintage, the alcohol is a bit intrusive.

Made from a mix of mostly Syrah, Grenache and Petite Sirah, yet with 6% Viognier and Roussanne, the 2013 Syrah Misfit spent 22 months in a mix of different sized barrels, with 35% being new. It’s a terrific wine that gives up lots of chocolaty dark fruits, smoked herbs, licorice and a touch of minerality in its full-bodied, chewy, mouth-filling and textured personality. Drink it over the coming 6-7 years.
