Old vines from within the Vigna Giachini. Beautiful mid ruby with beginning of orange rim. Again, as in all the Corino Barolos, the sweet glove of vanilla and oak. This is certainly not a traditionalist. Huge concentration and length. Perhaps needs a little less concentration, or perhaps less oak, but it certainly has the stuff for ageing. Pretty, powdery tannins. (WS)

The 2007 Barolo Vecchie Vigne explodes from the glass with sumptuous dark red fruit, French oak, smoke, licorice and tar. The combination of old vines, a rich vintage and the generous use of French oak result in a big, full-bodied wine loaded with fruit. I would prefer to drink the 2007 over the near and medium term. This a Barolo best enjoyed for its immediacy, and there is no shortage of that here.

(from old vines in Giachini): Deep red-ruby. Ripe plum, chocolate and mocha on the slightly roasted nose. Broad, plump and sweet, but with less complexity and verve than the "regular" Vigna Giachini. The dark cherry flavors shows an almost liqueur-like aspect. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins.
