Dense cassis and cedar nose. Very brisk for such a concentrated, intense wine. Very tight now, with slightly drying tannins. (LM)

Inky violet. Ripe cherry and blackcurrant aromas become spicier with air, taking on black pepper and musky underbrush character. Deep and chewy, with ripe dark berry liqueur flavors and a lightly singed quality arriving on the close. Powerful stuff, with deep, admirably sweet fruit, chewy texture and a long, velvety finish. I'd give this big boy some serious cellar time.

The final vintage for this cuvee, the 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Jericho Canyon offers a Graves-like personality of scorched earth, chocolate, charcoal, and black currants as well as a sumptuous, full-bodied palate, and a layered, multi-dimensional finish. Drink this remarkable Cabernet Sauvignon over the next two decades. One of Northern California’s most successful winemakers/consultants, David Ramey’s personal winery continues to go from strength to strength. Ramey has had the best of both worlds, working in Bordeaux for the Moueix family, and in California at Dominus, Chalk Hill, and Rudd Estate. Ramey has two hierarchies of Chardonnays, his generic appellations as well as his single vineyard cuvees. Previously recommended: 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Jericho Canyon (94), 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Pedregal (95+), 2004 Chardonnay Hudson Vineyard (91), 2004 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard (94), 2004 Chardonnay Ritchie Vineyard (93). Saturated violet. Flamboyantly aromatic aromas of powerful blueberry and boysenberry fruit accented by cola and floral pastille. Deep, sweet and expansive, with liqueur-like dark berry flavors, a bitter suggestion of cherry pit and silky tannins for support. This became fresher with air, taking a raspberry turn and picking up mineral accents. Finishes energetic and spicy, with an expansive red berry tone and remarkable length.
