Tasting notes
Bright purple. Wild, intense aromas of black raspberry, cherry compote, gingerbread and floral oils. Incisive dark berry flavors are complicated by violet pastille, licorice and a touch of allspice. Possesses a powerful spine and displays outstanding finesse, finishing with impressive lift and zesty, spice-driven persistence. Showing more vivacity than the richer Garys' and will be approachable earlier, I'll bet.

The 2007 Syrah Hawke’s Butte exhibits a floral, blueberry, and blackberry-scented nose revealing hints of asphalt and camphor in the background. With medium to full-bodied flavors as well as exceptional purity, texture, and depth, it should drink nicely for 7-10 years. Readers looking for different aromatic and tasting experiences should check out Copain’s 2007 and 2008 Roussannes. Tel. (707) 541-7474; Fax (707) 541-7575
