The 2009 Côte à Côte is dark and dusty in character, with woodland herbs and crushed violets giving way to crushed blackberries and allspice. This is beautifully resolved, silken and sweetly focused, yet with juicy acidity to balance and a vivid core of sour cherry fruit. This leaves the cheeks puckered as a balsamic tinge lingers under an air of lavender pastille. The 2009 is giving in every possible way and is a total pleasure to taste.

The 2009 L'Aventure Côte-à-Côte Estate is a blend of 42% Grenache, 37% Syrah, and 25% Mourvedre that was aged in 50% new French oak. Just a beautifully put together wine, it shows captivating notes of wild berry like fruits, graphite, licorice, and meaty characteristics on the nose. This leads to a full-bodied, awesomely textured wine that has big structure and fruit, yet maintains an overall elegant, seamless profile with solid freshness, and a classically styled, incredibly long finish. The texture and balance are really something here. While I'd have no problem drinking bottles now, this should continue to evolve positively for 2-3 years, and drink well for 10-12. Beautifully stuff.

(42% grenache, 33% syrah and 25% mourvedre, raised in 50% new oak): Vivid ruby. Explosive aromas of black raspberry, boysenberry, incense and star anise, with a hint of vanilla. Bright and energetic, with excellent clarity to its sweet berry and cherry-cola flavors. A suave floral nuance gains strength with air and carries through the very long, spicy, seamless finish.
