Tasting notes
Similar to the Fracture with its killer bouquet of crème de cassis, chocolate, smoked meats, and graphite, the 2018 Syrah Ones gains complexity with time in the glass, offering more tobacco, cigar, and spice-driven nuances. This big, opulent beauty is full-bodied, super-rich, and concentrated, yet it’s also seamless, weightless, and elegant, with a chalky minerality coming through on the finish. It’s already hard to resist yet should easily evolve for another decade.

The barrel sample of the 2018 Ones Syrah, made of 100% Syrah aging in 100% new French oak, is incredible. Deep ruby-purple in the glass, it's slow to open on the nose, with time giving up crème de cassis, baked red currants, grilled game meats, violets, cardamom and Indian spices with nuances of blackberry pie, milk chocolate and mint leaves. The full-bodied palate unfurls to loads of floral and spicy notions intermixed with the ripe black and blue fruits. The frame is plush, delightfully grainy and ultra fresh, finishing long and layered. Around 50 cases will be made.
