The deep purple-colored 2015 The Highlands is a Bordeaux blend that includes Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petite Verdot that spent 24 months in 50% new French oak. Notes of cassis, tobacco, charcoal, chocolate, and cedarwood all flow to a richly textured, full-bodied 2015 that has thrilling purity of fruit. It picks up more and more tannic grip with time in the glass, so give bottles 2-3 years in the cellar, and it should keep for over a decade.

The 2015 The Highlands is of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Bold and pungent, with tremendous aromatic depth, The Highlands is another intriguing wine from Sanguis. Grilled herb, leather, tobacco, menthol and licorice add shades of nuance to this highly expressive and inviting wine.

A blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Verdot, the 2015 The Highlands wafts from the glass with notes of smoke, creosote, camphor, crushed currants and gravelly soil, with a touch of alcohol poking through on the upper register even at cellar temperature. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, with a nice core of crunchy fruit, finishing with rather firm, grippy tannins that make me wonder about its future. It wasn't my favorite wine in the portfolio.
