Score 97/100 · Drink 2019-2039, Jeb Dunnuck, Jan 2019

Leading off the 2013s, the 2013 THV Proprietay Red is comprised of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot that spent 30 months in 70% new French oak. Its deep purple color is followed by notes of black cherries, blueberries, cassis, tobacco, and smoke earth, with hints of lead pencil developing with time in the glass. It has subtle mountain bay leaf and sagebrush notes hiding in there as well and is beautifully complex. The wine is full-bodied with terrific depth of fruit and concentration, wonderful balance, a sumptuous, elegant texture, and present tannins that are nicely coved by the wine’s terrific fruit. It’s more approachable than the Cabernet Sauvignon (although it’s more concentrated than the 2012) and should continue drinking beautifully for 20 years or more.
