Tasting notes
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Montecillo Vineyard is a beautifully elegant, polished wine, especially after the far more brutish 2013 from magnum that precedes in this tasting. It's hard to say if the differences between those two wines are mostly attributable to vintage or evolution in approach (or maybe some of both), but there is no denying that the 2019 is silky and quite refined for this site. Blood orange, crushed flowers, spice and dried herbs all run through a core of red-toned fruit. This is impeccably rendered.

60-year-old vines picked a week before DuMOL and the same day as Arnot-Roberts, both of whom also buy from this vineyard. Just a tad lean for my taste. Not quite enough follow through at the moment but maybe it will bloom in bottle. (JR)
A barrel sample, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Montecillo Vineyard looks to be the best, most complete yet from winemaker Ketan Mody. Faint herbal nuances add interest to the ripe cherries and cassis without becoming a distraction, while the texture of the medium to full-bodied palate is nicely ripe and silky, and the wine finishes long and elegant.
