The 2017 Zinfandel Cedarman is marked by the low yields of the vintage and the 18% Petite Sirah in the blend. Rich, powerful and intense, the Cedarman is going to need time to come together. This is an especially serious vintage for a wine that is positioned among the entry level offerings in the range. Black cherry, black plum, savory herb and leather all rush out of the glass. I won't be surprised if the Cedarman turns out even better than this note suggests.

The 2017 Zinfandel Cedarman is a blend of fruit from the Rattlesnake Ridge and Dragon vineyards and contains about 18% Petit Verdot. Very deep purple-black in color, it has a very dark, broody nose with dried violets, wild blackberries and briary fruits plus turned earth and nutmeg spice hints. Full-bodied, big and rich in the mouth with tons of lush black fruits and spicy layers, it's framed by very firm, fine-grained tannins and just enough freshness to lift the warm, spice-laced finish. 1,200 cases produced.

The 2017 Zinfandel Cedarman is a pretty wine, and yet not quite as expressive as it can be. In the glass, the Cedarman offers quite a bit of power, but less in the way of the aromatics that make the best vintages so intriguing. Yields are way down, while the Petite, at 18%, is relatively high in the blend.
