Tasting notes
The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon the Collector, 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Petite Sirah and the rest Merlot and Petit Verdot, reminds me of a big, rich Petite Sirah. That explains the 30% of that variety, but it seems to dominate the blend. Beautiful blueberry and black raspberry fruit, extremely extracted and rich, but not rustic by any means, this is a big, dense, pedal-to-the-metal, balls-to-the-wall black/purple red wine to drink over the next 20-25 years.

The 2013 The Collector is a delicious, mid-tier offering from Behrens. Sweet tobacco, dried herbs, red cherry jam, plum and licorice give the 2013 much of its distinct savory personality. Even with all of its unctuous, enveloping fruit, the 2013 could use another year or two in bottle, as the tannins are somewhat forbidding at this stage. Dollops of Petite Sirah and Petit Verdot complete the blend.
