Drink 2015-2025, Robert Parker, Oct 2015

The 2012 Vino Del Sol I find a tough wine to rate. It’s a blend of 52% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot. The wine spends 30 months in 100% French oak and is fortified up to 17.1% with grape brandy. It’s an interesting wine, but to me eclipsed by so many other fortified efforts from elsewhere in the world.

The 2012 Vino del Sol is fabulous. Cloves, new leather, dried figs, kirsch and dried cherries are some of the signatures. Ample, silky and wonderfully expressive, the 2012 exudes balance and class. Even with all of its intensity and sweetness, the 2012 finishes with notable freshness. The 2012 is one of the most intriguing Vigna del Sols I have tasted. Bottled in 500ml.
