Tasting notes
The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Vare is a very pretty wine. Dried cherry, tobacco, mint, cedar and licorice come together to form appealing aromatic top notes in an attractive mid-weight wine that gives the impression that it will drink best sooner rather than later. It is a bit simple and two-dimensional in its easygoing red-fruit profile; I would give it some time as the tannins are a bit firm, but this is quite good.

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Vare Vineyard, from a site on the valley floor, is a bit more voluptuous and forthcoming than the Chuy, yet retains a classic, mid-weight sense of structure and overall intensity. Licorice, herbs and red stone fruits add nuance on the fleshy, expressive finish.
The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Vare Vineyard is another super-impressive wine. A huge core of dark blue/black fruit hits the palate in an explosive, powerful Cabernet Sauvignon. This valley floor site naturally yields a riper, more voluptuous style of Cabernet than Chuy, so the Vare should be ready to drink sooner. An expressive, punchy finish laced with pomegranate, flowers and mint leaves a lasting impression.
