The 2012 Petite Sirah, which spent four years in barrel, is an awesome wine, and you’d never know it spent a ridiculous amount of time in barrel by tasting it. Full-bodied, rich, layered, and beautifully concentrated, it offers up huge notes of blueberries, blackberries, ozone, and graphite. Despite all its richness and depth, it stays light on its feel, has terrific purity of fruit, and a great, great finish. While drinking beautifully today, I suspect this long élevage has also resulted in an incredibly stable, age-worthy wine, and it should easily keep for another 10-15 years or more.

A rich, unctuous wine, the 2012 Petite Sirah is developing beautifully. Super-ripe red cherry, plum, spice, mint and rose petal all infuse this super-expressive, inviting Petite. Readers should expect a deep almost flamboyant Petite built on serious fruit intensity, with fairly tamed tannins within the context of young Petite.

Dark red cherry, mocha, new leather, cloves and rose petal all meld together in the 2012 Petite Sirah. Winemaker Elias Fernandez has done a terrific job in taming the Petite tannins and allowing the fruit to really shine through. Now, nearly six years after the harvest, the 2012 retains terrific freshness and brightness.
