The 2008 Meursault Les Rougeous from Coche-Dury is fabulous. Creamy and textured, the 2008 offers up scents of tangerine oil, mint, apricot, chamomile and tropical fruit. Time brings out more lifted, floral notes to complement the wine’s natural richness. I love the density and depth here. Best of all, the 2008 remains young and vibrant, with another decade of fine drinking ahead of it. While nothing from Coche-Dury qualifies as inexpensive these days, the Rougeots does offer tons of pedigree without the price tag of the very top wines. It’s a gorgeous wine that is in its sweet spot right now.

From Christian Thinard’s (obviously good) cellar. Deep gold. Putty with a hint of flowers. Really quite open now on the nose. Friendly with lively acidity and medium concentration. Drinkable, but without massive ripeness and concentration. Lime juice and very precise and clean. Suffering only because of the grandeur of the 2010. Like a blend of 2009 and 2010. More tension and much more acidity than the 2009. (JR)
Pale straw. Very strong matchstick fume. Racy and steely. Still at the grapefruit peel stage. Too young to drink ideally. (JR)
