Tasting notes
(includes 24% co-fermented cabernet sauvignon) Bright ruby-red. Very ripe aromas of blackberry, coffee and spicy oak; shows an almost grenache-like candied fruit character. Then sweet, ripe and dense in the mouth, with a dark cherry flavor perked up by more piquant notes of pomegranate and crushed tart berries. As ripe as this is, it's fresh and lively too. Finishes with considerable wood tannins that are firm but not at all bitter. Lovely lingering sweetness and lift on the aftertaste. Production of this wine was one-third of a normal year due to frost, according to Chris Figgins.

Some Cabernet Sauvignon (10%) was co-fermented in the 2004 Sangiovese, which was produced entirely from estate vineyards (both Mill Creek Upland and Seven Hills Vineyards). Sporting a nose of sweet roses, plums, and black cherries, this medium to full-bodied wine is packed with dark cherries, blackberries, and candied cassis. An engaging, concentrated effort, it should be enjoyed over the next 5 years. Tel. (509) 525-1428; www.leonetticellar.com
