Revisited from bottle, the 2018 Corton Grèves Grand Cru (Domaine Louis Jadot) unwinds in the glass with youthfully reserved aromas of plums and black cherries complemented by subtle hints of spice and forest floor. Full-bodied, rich and muscular, the abundant tannins that I remarked upon from barrel are still present, but they've become more supple with élevage, so this isn't quite as structural as I'd anticipated, even if it's still a fleshy, broad-shouldered wine of considerable authority.

The 2018 Corton-Grèves Grand Cru is packed full of dense black cherry and boysenberry fruit on the nose, forceful if missing some elegance. The palate is sweet on the entry, fleshy and very ripe with a candied finish that is seductive, yet missing terroir expression.

A south-east-facing vineyard on siliceous soils. Fermented in large vats for 3–4 weeks before maturation for 18–20 months in barrel. Bright ruby in colour with delicate red fruits and fresh flowers on the nose – very lifted and fresh for the vintage. The palate is juicy with red fruits, silky with fine tannins and a rounded mouthfeel. Spicy and pure to the finish. (TP)
