Tasting notes
Saffirio's 2003 Barolo Riserva Persiera is a surprisingly round, generous wine that impresses for the purity of its fruit and the finesse of the tannins, something that is exceedingly rare in this vintage. Round and expansive on the palate, the Riserva Persiera possesses gorgeous length and a soft, well-articulated finish. Red berries, flowers and subtle French oak linger on the close.

Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025. This is a beautiful set of Barolos from Josetta Saffirio. As good as the wines are, I wonder if there is really enough of a difference here to merit three separate bottlings. Importer: North Berkeley Imports, Berkeley, CA; tel. (510) 336-9880
