Tasting notes
The 2018 Optimist packs a serious punch. Dark red cherry fruit, spice, licorice, tobacco and leather all race across the palate. This Syrah/Grenache-based blend offers plenty of up-front appeal, but there is enough structure to allow for a decade or more of fine drinking. Sweet floral and spice notes lift the finish nicely. Optimist is Syrah, Grenache and Petit Verdot, with a touch of Roussanne.

Moving to the reds, the 2018 Optimist is based on Syrah, Grenache, Petit Verdot, and Roussanne that’s from a handful of sites in the Santa Ynez Valley. Medium to full-bodied, fresh, and lively, with good structure as well as lots of assorted red and black fruits, peppery herb, and barbecue smoke notes, it’s a satisfying, impressively put together red that should evolve gracefully for a good decade.
