Tasting notes
Leading off the Pinot Noirs, the 2020 Pinot Noir Duende Gold Coast Vineyard comes from Santa Maria and was destemmed and spent 12 months in 50% new barrels. Its medium ruby hue is followed by a big, boisterous bouquet of ripe strawberries, framboise, spring flowers, and sappy herbs. This fruit-loaded, sexy, forward, seamless effort is one of the more approachable and ready-to-go in the lineup, yet it still has good acidity as well as tannins.

The 2020 Pinot Noir Gold Coast Vineyard Duende is quite a bit richer and deeper than it usually is, and that's a huge positive, as the Duende can be a touch fleeting and overly ethereal in some years. Dark cherry, plum, spice, dried and French oak are front and center. In this vintage, Duende is heady and explosive. There is quite a bit of savoriness, but that is the personality of the site, as there are no whole clusters here. The 2020 Duende is quite simply exceptional. Paul Lato fans will adore it.
Gorgeous aromas of strawberries, flowers, chanterelle mushrooms and earth. Full-bodied with soft, velvety tannins. Bright and spicy. This is non-grafted Martini Clone. Love the finish on this. Unique. Drink or hold.
