Score 90/100 · Drink 2021-2028, David Schildknecht, Vinous, Mar 2021

This came from parcels in Böchingen and Flemlingen. Where the vintage’s dry Minges Gewürztraminer weighed in at an unfortunately excessive 14.5% alcohol, this unapologetically sweet version fermented only to 10.5%. Pear drops, candied lychee, rose petal and honeydew liqueur make for a heady aromatic and lush, glossy palate performance, to which hints of mint add a welcome cooling touch. Remarkably, the finish is informed by generous juiciness, and a saliva-liberating pinch of salt adds further appeal.

Very fragrant yellow fruit with notes of peaches, sweet roses and spices. The palate has a smooth, fleshy, attractively balanced feel. Good balance and texture and plenty of smooth, sweet fruit. Drink now. Screw cap.
