Score 89/100 · Drink 2004-2009, Robert Parker, Aug 2004

The 2001 Syrah Bunny Slope Vineyard is an original, artistic expression of this varietal. Complex aromas of damp earth, quince, kirsch, plums, spice box, pepper, and tar are followed by an Amarone-like attack revealing broad, gamy, distinct flavors. The finish is slightly clipped as well as short with an intrusive earthy character. Not for everybody, it does not reveal Clos Mimi’s typical opulence and generosity. Drink it over the next 4-5 years. This is a unique, individualistic offering from a revolutionary winemaker marching to the beat of his own drum. Let’s hope he never changes. Tel. (805) 489-2900
