Score 89/100 · Drink 2002-2006, Robert Parker, Aug 2002

The 2000 Chardonnay Charles Ranch exhibits a surprisingly evolved color, and high acidity. It is somewhat monolithic, and the acids are poking through, giving it a tartness atypical for Martinelli. This was the last Chardonnay vineyard to be harvested in 2000, and perhaps it never achieved the ripeness of the other vineyards. Nevertheless, there is abundant fruit (candied citrus and apples) as well as a spicy quality. Drink it over the next 3-4 years. Tel. (707) 525-0570; Fax (707) 525-9463

Slightly hazy. Leesy coconut aroma, with a faint lactic nuance. Quite dry and rather unforthcoming, but with solid texture and good grip. Middle palate lifted by a bright citric quality. Finishes firm and persistent.

Martinelli

Martinelli is a Sonoma benchmark for vineyard-designate bottlings—wines built to highlight how strongly a single site can shape Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah, and Zinfandel. Across the range, the focus stays consistent: small-production bottlings that feel distinctly tied to where they’re grown.
