The 2022 Sauvignon Blanc Estate Farrow Ranch boasts a lovely, flinty reduction that is beautifully detailed on the nose, with notes of white currants, quince, fresh citrus, and spring flowers. It’s entirely Sauvignon Blanc that was aged for 16 months in 75% new French oak, which softens out both the aromatics and the texture of the palate. As with a large portion of the wines from the range, this site was picked before the heat spike that was a defining event in the growing season, and it keeps a lot of freshness. The palate has a floating feel with a medium-bodied frame and graceful finish. It’s a lovely wine to drink over the next 6-8 years. 190 cases produced.

The 2022 Sauvignon Blanc Farrow Ranch is a new wine from Aperture and comes from vines planted in the late 1980s (Aperture purchased Farrow Ranch in late 2021). Picked before the severe Labor Day heat wave, it was matured in 75% new French oak for 16 months. It takes significant air to really open and is worth the wait: oodles of peach and green tropical fruits are accented by nuances of beeswax and exotic spice on the nose. The palate is luxuriously satiny, its rich, panna cotta-laced flavors balanced by fireworks of fresh acidity, and it has a very long, layered finish. 190 cases were made.

The 2022 Sauvignon Blanc is blended with 16% Sémillon and was matured mostly in French oak (33% new) plus a smaller portion of cement tank. It's the first vintage where so much Sémillon has been included—since acquiring Farrow Ranch in 2021, winemaker Jesse Katz has been able to add some of that site's fruit into his Aperture wines. It has alluring tones of white peach, kumquat, meringue and crème brûlée on the nose, plus wafts of floral perfume. The medium-bodied palate offers expansive flavors that segue from candied citrus to guava and vanilla pots de crème. It has a luxuriously satiny texture balanced by focused acidity and a very long, flavorful finish. 3,200 cases produced.

Pale straw with green highlights, the 2022 Sauvignon Blanc is savory and floral with aromatics of fresh herbs, grapefruit rind, beeswax, and soft floral notes as well as delicate oak spice. Medium-bodied, it has an elegant, supple texture, ripe notes of quince, wet stones, and preserved citrus, and lifted saline. This is an exquisite wine to drink over the next 5-6 years. Jesse Katz and winemaker Hillary Sjolund are producing some of Sonoma's best examples of Bordeaux-inspired blends today. The wines offer hedonistic pleasure across the range, offering high-octane power balanced with superb elegance, and with their top reds have significant aging potential.
