Score 90/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, May 2005
Good deep red. Superripe aromas of black raspberry, dried strawberry, licorice, smoke, tar and game. Sweet and sappy, with almost grapey flavors of cherry, raspberry and leather framed by brisk natural acidity. Juicy, vinous finish features very fine, dusty tannins. A distinctly idiosyncratic wine from vines planted in the late 1970s.

The eccentric 2003 Charbono exhibits an unusual funky tea/herbal character along with a dense purple color and crisp acidity. Its aromas and flavors are somewhat of an acquired taste. Drink it over the next 3-4 years. Tel. (707) 965-2669
