Score 93/100 · Drink 2006-2016, Robert Parker, Jun 2006

Martinelli’s Zindfandel is a rich, high-octane wine of considerable intensity, fragrance, and richness. The 2004 Zinfandel Jackass Vineyard (690 cases) offers copious quantities of espresso roast, overripe figs, coffee, cola, strawberry and cherry jam, a hint of mincemeat and spice box, and a monstrously rich, full-bodied palate that just oozes fruit, glycerin, and alcohol. This wine should drink well for up to a decade. Tel. (707) 525-0570

(16.9% alcohol) Deep ruby-red. Sappy, vinous, liqueur-like nose offers complex scents of cherry, forest floor and fresh herbs. Dense, large-scaled and creamy, with terrific fruit building slowly and inexorably. Fully ripe tannins give shape to this huge wine. A superb zinfandel, offering much better retention of primary fruit than the 2003 model.

Martinelli

Martinelli is a Sonoma benchmark for vineyard-designate bottlings—wines built to highlight how strongly a single site can shape Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah, and Zinfandel. Across the range, the focus stays consistent: small-production bottlings that feel distinctly tied to where they’re grown.
