Score 96/100 · Drink 2026-2036, Eric Guido, Vinous, Jun 2024

Dusty and floral, the 2021 Vertigo opens in the glass with a whiff of violet pastille and stone dust complemented by hints of cedar and orange sorbet. Soft and enveloping, it washes across the palate with textures of pure silk and polished wild berry fruits, all guided by a brilliant core of fresh acidity. While grippy, potent and structured, the 2021 finishes with an energetic yet crunchy feel, leaving black raspberry and sour citrus tones to tug at the cheeks. Beautifully done. The Vertigo is a blend of 62% Syrah, 22% Mourvèdre, 7% Grenache, 5% Petite Sirah and 4% Tannat. While deceptively giving today, the best is yet to come.

The 2021 Vertigo Extended is a blend of 62% Syrah, 22% Mourvèdre, 7% Grenache, 5% Petite Sirah and 4% Tannat, matured for 22 months in 50% new French oak. It's a touch youthfully closed on the nose at this stage, with scents of blueberry pie, vanilla bean, licorice and peppercorn. The palate, on the other hand, explodes with gregarious flavors. It has highly concentrated, floral fruit, abundant, clay-textured tannins and seamless acidity. It really opens up as it spends time in the glass and deserves 3-5 years in bottle to unwind. 525 cases were made.
