Score 95/100 · Drink 2024-2044, Jeb Dunnuck, Jan 2020

More blue fruits, charcoal, scorched earth, and forest floor notes emerge from the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain, and it stays tight, backward, and structured on the palate, with plenty of tannins, beautiful purity, and good acidity. This is a magical, ageworthy mountain Cabernet that's going to benefit from a solid 4-6 years of bottle age.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is a little broody to begin and then, with coaxing, offers glimpses at fertile loam, fungi and charcoal notes over a core of blackcurrant pastilles, mulberries and ripe plum plus a waft of stewed tea. Full-bodied, the palate is packed with earth and mineral accents, framed by firm, sturdy tannins and compelling freshness, finishing on a lingering minerally note.
