Tasting notes
The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon opens with a beguiling bouquet of smoke, incense, tobacco, wild flowers and scorched earth. Silky and polished on the palate, the 2009 impresses for the way it balances an overt expression of fruit while retaining considerable underlying structure. I imagine the 2009 will enjoy a broad window of drinkability.

(Not yet released) I was quite taken with the three wines I tasted this year from Kelly Fleming and her long-time winemaker Celia Welch. Tel. (707) 942-6849; www.kellyflemingwines.com
Good bright ruby. Subdued, slightly jammy aromas of blackberry and cassis. Warm and spicy in the mouth, with good backbone to the flavors of raspberry and cinnamon. Tightens up on the back end, finishing with dusty, slightly drying tannins. Jim Barbour organically farms this vineyard near Araujo Estate, and Celia Welch makes the wines.
The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon shows a little more depth and tannic spine than the 2008. Dark red fruit, spices, licorice, mint and flowers wrap around the juicy, delineated finish.
