Score 93/100 · Drink 2024-2035, Jeb Dunnuck, Dec 2024

First released in 2008, the NV Champagne Brut Rosé is the release based around the 2021 vintage. A medium salmon hue (only 5% red wine is added to the blend), the nose is beautiful and has a lovely touch of opulence in its notes of preserved Amarena cherries, ripe red fruit, toasted brioche, and fresh roses. The palate offers a luxurious feel, with power and elegance that suggest decadence, but it’s not sweet. It has a refined mousse, with a chalky and pithy, orange-tinged structure, wonderful length, and a good core that will easily age another 10 or more years. For a long time, Bollinger only allowed private visits, but they plan to open a visiting center in 2027 in the center of Ay and are also going to increase production from their current 4000 barrels to 5500. In addition, they’re going to start adding information to the label of their Special Cuvée.

62% Pinot Noir, 24% Chardonnay and 14% Pinot Meunier. 85% of the grapes come from premier cru and grand cru vineyards, 60% of which are owned by Bollinger. 5–6% of the Pinot Noir vinified as red wine. Primary fermentation in both small stainless-steel tanks and wooden casks, then aged for at least three years. A key component of this blend is the use of reserve wines in magnums and French oak barrels, which are aged for 5 to 15 years or more in the cellars. Winemaker Gilles Descotes. TA 4.1 g/l , pH 3.2, RS 9 g/l . Natural cork. Bottle weight 900 g. Available in over 283 shops. Really complex nose. Oak in evidence but one forgives this for Bollinger! A delightfully complex wine for the table. Very long but not for those seeking maximum refreshment. (JR)

The latest release of Bollinger's NV Brut Rosé is showing especially well, offering up complex aromas of sweet stone fruit, honeycomb, freshly baked bread and orange oil, followed by a medium to full-bodied, pillowy and vinous palate. Layered and concentrated, with a pretty pinpoint mousse and ripe but racy acids, it concludes with a long, expansive finish.

62% Pinot Noir, 24% Chardonnay, 14% Pinot Meunier. Winemaker: Gilles Descôtes. RS 7–8 g/l. Pale to mid salmon. Light Pinot perfume. Well-managed mousse is just the right side of not-too-aggressive. Good balance of fruit and the dry finish. Serious rosé champagne but definitely not hard work to drink now. (JR)
