2013 Pott Kaliholmanok

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Kaliholmanok Kico Me Vineyard gets high praise for its name alone, but the wine itself backs it up. With 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, it’s opaque purple with notes of white flowers, blue and black fruits, licorice, espresso roast and a touch of barrique, it is full-bodied, heady and rich. Drink it over the next 25 years.

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Kaliholmanok, from a site on Spring Mountain, is one of the most sensual wines in Aaron Pott's range. Super-ripe red cherry, plum, mint, spice and rose petal meld into the voluptuous, racy finish, all with silky tannins that enrobe the fruit while conveying finesse and pure sensuality. Next to Pott's 2013s, the Kaliholmanok is a bit less powerful and is also likely to be more accessible young.

Firm mountain tannins and a distinctly savory profile are the signatures of the Cabernet Sauvignon Kaliholmanok. Graphite, smoke and grilled herbs add layers of nuance to the inky blue/blackish fruit in huge Cabernet Sauvignon built on breadth and pure power. The searing tannins need time to soften, but there is plenty of potential here. Once again, patience is a must.
