Tasting notes
The 2008 Wind Gap Wines Rana is a blend of 91% Grenache and 9% Mourvedre, fermented with 100% whole cluster, that was aged for 12 months in barrel, followed by 6 months in stainless steel. Beautifully perfumed and complex, with black cherry and blackberry styled fruits, licorice, bramble, pepper, and spice, this medium-bodied blend has a supple, pure texture, solid density through the middle, and ripe tannin on the finish. Very drinkable and balanced, this should be enjoyed over the coming decade.

The 2008 Rana is a Rhone blend of 58% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre and 12% Syrah. Sweet red cherries, crushed flowers, spices and licorice are some of the notes that emerge from this delicate, feminine wine. Sweet, floral notes reappear on the finish. This is a touch fleeting but pretty just the same. The Grenache was sourced from James Berry Vineyard, Booker and Castelli-Knight Ranch, the Syrah was sourced from Nellessen vineyard and the Mourvèdre was sourced from James Berry. The wine was aged in neutral French oak barrels for 12 months.

(58% grenache, 30% mourvedre and 12% syrah; raised in neutral oak): Glass-staining ruby. Showing blacker fruit aromas than the Orra: cassis, blackberry and cherry, along with notes of licorice and rooty sassafras. With air, exotic floral and apricot nuances come up and carry onto the palate, which offers deep dark berry preserve character and a velvety texture. The floral note lingers on the long, spicy, highly perfumed finish.
