Tasting notes
Memento Mori draws fruit from two blocks at Vine Hill Ranch; the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Vine Hill Ranch Vineyard incorporates almost exactly half of each in the blend. Showing admirable complexity, the nose begins with scents of truffle and tree bark, then moves into deep, dark cassis notes with just a hint of sage. Like all the Memento Mori wines this vintage, it's full-bodied, but while the tannins are ripened to near-plushness, they're also the firmest of the quartet, suggesting a lifespan that should easily span 20 or 25 years. Long and silky on the finish, possessing ample vibrancy, this is a real beauty.

Coming from two blocks in this superb valley floor site on the south side of Oakville, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Vine Hill Ranch Vineyard reveals a deep purple/blue color as well as a focused, balanced, incredibly complete style. Cassis, dark chocolate, pipe tobacco, and loamy soil notes define the aromatics, and it's full-bodied, with ample mid-palate depth, ripe tannins, and a classy profile that will benefit from just 3-5 years in the cellar.
