Tasting notes
Aged for 16 months in 60% new French oak barrels, the 2016 Chardonnay Purrington-Rued Vineyard opens with a rock-star nose of ripe apricots, beeswax, warm melons, guava and honeysuckle with touches of nutmeg, aniseed, baking bread and orange blossoms. The medium to full-bodied palate is bold and decadently fruited with tons of tropical fruit layers and just enough freshness, finishing long and spicy. 49 cases produced.

Exuberant notes of persimmon, orange blossom, spice, and buttered citrus all emerge from the 2016 Chardonnay Purrington Rued Vineyard, and it's a more rounded, fleshy effort. While it lacks the vibrancy of the top wines in this portfolio, it has beautiful richness, nicely integrated acidity, and a rich, powerful style that's easy to love. Drink it over the coming 4-6 years. These brilliant wines from Chateau Boswell are made by renowned winemaker/consultant Philippe Melka, with assistants from Allison Nunnikhoven. I found all f the wines to have classic, balanced, age-worthy profiles, and they’re some of the gems in this report.
