Tasting notes
Arietta's 2006 Merlot Hudson Vineyards has held up well. In fact, it is one of the better 2006s in this lineup. Bold, intense and burly, the 2006 offers an attractive combination of tertiary aromatics, good depth and lively acidity. Tobacco, torrefaction, leather, licorice, dried herbs and mint add aromatic nuance, but it is the wine's overall balance that is most impressive. The 100% new oak is evident, but also integrated.

Dark red. Aromas and flavors of plum, minerals and dark chocolate, plus a whiff of menthol. Very ripe, sweet and lush, with impressive depth and power for North Coast merlot. Finishes with serious but ripe tannins and a suggestion of black olive.
Good full ruby-red. Captivating aromas of black raspberry, smoked meat, bitter chocolate and minerals. Lush, sweet and seamless, with a deep core of raspberry and chocolate flavor firmed by minerality and complicated by a saline nuance. Deep, sexy, chewy wine, finishing with building tannins and excellent length. Merlot with real personality.
