Tasting notes
Well known consultant Philippe Melka has turned out one seriously good 2015 Syrah Majestique, which comes all from Bill Armstrong’s Paderewski Vineyard up off Peachy Canyon Road on the west side of Paso Robles. Pure class with its dark fruits, cured meats, ground pepper, and subtle olive notes, this beauty hits the palate with medium to full body, a ripe, balanced, layered texture, and both intensity and elegance. It’s one of the gems in this report and certainly one of the top wines in 2015.

One of the hidden gems in the Melka lineup, the 2015 Syrah Paderewski Vineyard Majestique is fabulous. A rich, sumptuous wine, the 2015 captures a striking interplay of intense dark fruit and savory overtones from the 20% whole clusters. Readers should expect a lush, full-bodied style. All the elements fall into place effortlessly. The 2015 needs time to shed some of its baby fat, but it is impressive, even at this early stage.
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Syrah Majestique offers up baked plums, blackberry compote and fruitcake notions with hints of licorice, asphalt, black soil and black pepper. Full-bodied, rich, peppery and generous in the mouth, it fills the palate with savory and black fruit preserves flavors, textured by rounded tannins and finishing on a meaty/savory note. 111 cases made.
