Tasting notes
Almonds, hazelnuts, orange peel and dried savory herbs meld together in the 2013 Chardonnay River Block. Rich, layered and sensual in the glass, the River Block impresses for its balance and personality. The style is a bit laid back relative to prior vintages, but these old Wente clones have plenty of richness on their own. This is one of the most vivid wines in the range.

The 2013 Chardonnay River Block (fashioned from the Old Wente and Dijon clone 95) reveals a distinctive, gravelly, wet pebbly minerality in addition to notes of white currants, quince, unbuttered popcorn and a hint of new oak. Medium to full-bodied and Chablis-like with its minerality and display of unadorned fruit, this beauty can be enjoyed over the next 4-7 years.
