Tasting notes
Inky purple with a vibrant rim. Floral- and vanilla-forward with black plum. Really plush and silky compared with the more peppery and austere York Mountain Syrah. Grippy tannin and fresh acidity. (SCJ)

Coming all from a single block in the estate Paderewski Vineyard, the 2021 Syrah Block B (100% clone 174 Syrah) is another killer wine from this team. Pure blue fruits, graphite, iron, smoked herbs, and freshly ground pepper are just some of its nuances, and this beauty hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a deep, layered, flawlessly balanced mouthfeel, moderate acidity, and a thrilling finish. It's going to continue drinking brilliantly for a solid decade.
The 2021 Syrah Block B is dark and inward, opening with an understated mix of musky black currants, sage and dusty earth. Dense and powerful, this envelops the palate in ripe wild berry fruits and sweet herbal tones as edgy tannins mount toward the close. Structured and dramatically long, the 2021 closes with a pleasantly bitter tinge and crisp minerality that creates an almost crystalline feel.
The 2021 Block B Syrah comes from the Paderewski Vineyard and was matured for 18 months in 75% new French oak barrels and puncheons. Over several minutes in the glass, it unfurls from boysenberry and lavender to nuances of coffee grounds, cocoa powder and dried herbs. The full-bodied palate balances concentrated, nuanced fruit and pleasantly chewy tannins with vibrant acidity, and it has a long, floral finish. 512 cases were made.
